We at PCVU are thrilled to see the forward momentum from the Democrats of Pacific County in supporting LGBTQIA+ rights and representation. We wholeheartedly applaud their solidarity and commitment to equality. As the Democrats of Pacific County powerfully state, "We stand in solidarity with our friends, neighbors, loved ones, and group members in the LGBTQIA+ community." We hope others will also take a stand in fostering inclusivity, respect, and justice for all. This is a vital step toward a more just and inclusive society, and we look forward to seeing further progress from our community.

Statement of Support for the LGBTQIA+ Community and Jessica Roberts

As advocates for equality, we recognize that representation matters. When our elected officials reflect the diverse voices of the people they serve, we all benefit from a more just and inclusive society.

At a time when trans rights and LGBTQIA+ visibility are more critical than ever, we need our elected officials, cities, and school districts to take strong stands to support the LGBTQA+ members of their community. We know that diversity makes our communities stronger and that we must stand up for the people whose ability to live their lives are most at-risk.

We applaud the City of Lynnwood for appointing the first trans woman to hold public office in Washington State and encourage the Council to consider other individuals who are trans for the vacancy. We thank Jessica Roberts for stepping up to serve her community and wish her success in her next efforts.

We are disappointed that right-wing bloggers went out of their way to erase trans voices and discredit a woman who had the audacity to serve her community.

Public officials are parents, they are daughters and sons, they are friends and they are our neighbors. They have private lives that do not interfere with their abilities to serve their communities. We know that over half of elected officials across the nation have faced threats or harassment, and these threats make it less likely that people will participate in the political process.

We also extend our solidarity and support to the broader LGBTQIA+ community. We are part of a larger movement toward justice, acceptance, and equal opportunity. We encourage the residents of Lynnwood and beyond to continue fostering a culture of inclusivity, respect, and civic engagement.
